FujoCon Panel Submission Rules

The Panelist Submission Form opens on March 13, 2022 and closes at 11:59PM CST on May 8, 2022.

All panelists/groups must fill out an application to be considered for a panel spot at FujoCon. Panel groups may consist of 1-4 individuals.

On the date of your panel, panelists MUST check-in online at least 15 minutes before your scheduled panel time to give you time to set-up, meet the panel mod(s), and make sure everything is working smoothly. Panelists may also be required to attend a run-through prior to the event itself in order to troubleshoot/anticipate any technical issues.

All panelists, presenters or helpers must be age 18 or older by the application deadline to participate.

Accept/decline emails will be sent no later than May 15th, 2022.

For any additional questions, please contact fujoconpanels@gmail.com

Previous Panelists

Panelitists who presented in 2021 are encouraged to participate in 2022. However, please do not submit panels you presented last year UNLESS they have been extensively updated/changed. If you submitted a panel last year, but it wasn’t accepted, you are welcome to resubmit it for 2021 consideration.

Panel Recording

All panels will be recorded to allow them to be uploaded online for our international attendees to view, as well as for archival purposes. If you cannot have your panel uploaded online, please let us know on the panel submission form.

Panelists are welcome to use a pseudonym when presenting if they do not want to use their legal name publicly.

Pre-Recorded vs Live

  • Panelists may present their panel live or pre-recorded.

  • If a panelist chooses to pre-record their panel, they should allow some time after the presentation for a live Q&A session for attendees.

  • Panelists do not have to show their face on camera and may use an avatar/photo for the Q&A session.

International Panelists

FujoCon welcomes international panelist applications. Programming generally runs from about 10AM-11:59PM CST. FujoCon is currently looking at the possibility of hosting overnight programming during the hours of 12AM-6AM CST. However, this will entirely depend on staff & volunteer availability.

PANEL TOPICS

We encourage panelists to incorporate topics that would fit with the FujoCon theme.

Topics can include, but are not limited to:

  • Boys’ love / yaoi manga and anime

  • Gei comi

  • LGBT manga and anime

  • Slash and BL fanworks (fanart, fanfic, doujins)

  • MM Romance original works

  • Sports anime and manga

  • Male idol fandom

  • Fujoshi and shipping culture

  • BL live action series/films

  • Cosplay, itabagging, and fandom fashion

  • Women in fandom

  • Group games/game shows that attendees can participate in (Among Us, Jeopardy, etc.)

We will not be accepting any cosplay “in-character” panels for this event. We encourage those interested in these types of panels to host or join one of the official fandom gatherings. You can find this information on our website!

We understand that some panel topics might be controversial, but we do want to create a welcoming environment to panelists & attendees. Harassment of panelists or attendees will not be tolerated. If the topic is not to your taste, we encourage you to check out any of our other events going on during the weekend.

Panel Ratings

Please let us know the rating of your panel so that we can announce them appropriately. Ratings are as follows:

  • General (no NSFW content)

  • Adult (may include NSFW content, but no explicit depictions of genitalia/sexual acts)

Panel Length and Setup

Panel slots are typically 1 hour, but may be up to 1.5 hours in length. If you need more time for your panel, please indicate this in your submission form as well as why you will need the additional time.

Panelists must have a strong internet connection at time of the presentation as well as a decent quality mic in order for your audience to hear and understand you.

Panels will be scheduled for the dates June 24-26, 2022. Our goal is to have the convention schedule posted to the public by June 13th, 2022.

Panel formats subject to equipment availability:

  • Standard/Lecture: 1-4 panelists with a minimum of 1 staff moderator, discussing a topic with an online audience. The audience will be muted, but can send questions to the panel moderator for the presenter.

  • Game Show: 1-4 panelists present a gameshow set up via Zoom, JackBox, Kahoot, or other interactive online software. Will be assigned at least 1 staff moderator as needed. Audiences will begin muted, but chosen audience members can be unmuted in order to participate.

  • How-to/Crafting/DIY: 1-2 panelists present a step by step lesson on how to craft an item(s). The project must relate to fandom or fit under the FujoCon umbrella.

  • Party/Group Game: 1 panelist will host a party game via Steam or other interactive software. Party games do not have to relate to FujoCon themes. Party game examples include but are not limited to:

    • Among Us

    • Fall Guys

    • Monster Prom/Camp

    • Overcooked 2

  • Screenings/Watch Party: 1 panelist will host a watch party via one of the various official options. Attendees must also be subscribers to the streaming service used. Panelists may only host series/films that are legally available via the streaming service used. Due to staff constraints a moderator will not be provided for watch parties.
